In a recent online survey was conducted between March 28
and April 11 with a random sample of 305 Canadian adults conducted for BMO
Harris Private Banking several interesting and encouraging facts came to light
regarding economic status of Immigrants in Canada.
These findings are as follows
- 48% of Canada’s rich with investable assets of million dollars or more are immigrants or has close immigrants links.
- 24% are first Generation Immigrants.
- 24% has at least has one parent who is born outside Canada and an immigrant.
- British Columbia has the highest percentage of high-net-worth citizens whose investable assets of $1 million or more
- 67% of these millionaire Immigrants are self made.
These facts clearly indicate the fact that economic
mobility for Immigrants is a reality in Canada. They establish a strong
entrepreneurial environment. They also confirm that a culture of drive and
determination Canadians self-made success is encouraged and rewarded.
Since 1897, when the first Indians arrived in Canada,
Immigration of Indians from India to Canada had increased several folds. Today
there are over a million immigrants of Indian origin and most of them settled
successfully. 3.08% of the Canadian population is of Indian Origin.
64% of all Canadians of East Indian origin aged 15 and
over were employed, compared with 62% of adults in the overall Canadian
population.
Most of the Indians are now engaged in almost all sectors
of the economy. Be it IT, Manufacturing, Oil & Gas, Mining, Transport,
Health etc.
Between 2006 and 2011, Indian share in Canadian
Immigration was 10.4%. This means a total of 121400 Indian Immigrants were
welcomed in Canada under all Economic categories of Canadian Immigration.
In 2012, a total of 32000 Permanent Residency visas were
issued to Indian Nationals under different Permanent Residency programs like
Federal Skilled Workers Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, Quebec SkilledWorkers Program, Provincial Nomination Programs, Canada Experience Class etc.,
It is expected that a similar number of visas would be
issued for the year 2013. As on 14th February 2013 about 16500 visas were
issued by Regional Program Center (RPC) in India.
Canada now is welcoming Skilled Professionals across all
streams to settle to grow and to contribute to its growth. It is throwing its
doors wide open to Skilled and qualified professions under different
Immigration Programs like Federal Skilled Workers Program, Federal Skilled
Trades Program, Quebec Skilled Workers Program, Provincial Nomination Programs,
Canada Experience Class etc., for Permanent Residency.
Canada is also welcoming dynamic Investors, entrepreneurs
and self-employed persons under programs like Start Up Visa, Self-Employed
Persons Program and different Investor programs.
This is the appropriate time for all those professions
who are looking west words for a better, brighter future.
Canada seems to be
the most suitable destination for immigrants since the Canadian Government is
making a concerted effort woo immigrants.
