USA F-2 Student Dependent Visa

The spouse or children who are unmarried and are under the age of 21 years of the F-1 student Visa are eligible to obtain an F-2 Visa. F-2 Visa holders can stay in the US along with the primary student as long as he/she remains in legal F1 visa status.

How to apply for an F-2 visa?

Spouse and children under 21 can apply for a F2 visa. In order to apply for this dependent visa the candidate need to submit some proofs which shows their relation with the main F1 visa holder. You just need to show the documents such a birth certificate, marriage certificate, notarized certificate and others. An evidence for financial resources is needed to prove that you can support yourselves and family members in US. Photocopy of present passport front page, back page and address page
I-20 copy of the main applicant i.e., F1 student visa holder

Can an F2 holder work?

An F2 holder cannot work during his/her stay in USA. The dependent under F2 can change their status to F1 and get some employment benefits.

Can F2 Visa holder travel outside US?

The candidates can leave and enter US with an unexpired visa or a new one. If the travel is for Canada or Mexico, and that is less than 30 days then there is no need of a visa. If the visitor is applying for a new visa when he/she is in Canada or in Mexico and the application is in waiting or denied, the candidate need to be capable to re-enter in the US.

If F1 Student is travelling, can F2 dependent stay in US?

This is possible as the F1 holder is in valid status, and is not present in US for limited duration and is intended to come back to US.
