Canada International Migration Outlook Report – 2013

International Migration Outlook Report for 2013 released recently by The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)augers well for the immigrants who are looking towards Canada for immigration  for permanent settlement. The figures presented in the report pertain to the year 2011.

Of all the countries, India occupies third place as an origin country with 10% under the economic stream, the first 2 being Philippines with 14% and China with 12%.

Much of the population growth in Canada in recent years is due to the immigrants. Out of every 1000 people in Canada the immigrants comprise 7.5. The total share of foreign born in Canada is 20%.

According to this report the annual immigration flow to Canada is one of the highest among 34 OECD members.

Canada admitted 249 000 Permanent Residents during in 2011 and of these 62.8% were admitted under Economic Migration stream. 25.5% of the visas which were issued Permanent Resident Visas were under work category. The different Permanent Residency programs are Federal Skilled Workers Program, Canada Quebec Skilled Workers Program and Provincial Nominations.

Canada issued 191000 Temporary Works Permits, 77400 Student Visas  and 64400 people became new Citizens in 2011.

Keeping in view of its need for Productive Population Canada is fine tuning its immigration Policies.

It has reformed Canada Federal Skilled Workers Program, introduced a New Federal Skilled Trades Program and Start Up Visa for Entrepreneurs and expanded its Canadian Experience Class Program.

It is also proposing to launch Expression of Interest next year, which would facilitate immediate employment to Immigrants.
